Plan your address around the task

How long can a temporary email last? Start with the task duration

A three-hour window works for one-time verification; multi-day notifications, credential recovery, and ongoing contact need a different approach. Use the planner below before creating an address.

Use the current three-hour window

A single sign-up or download verification usually fits within one window. Keep this page open and don't change addresses before the email arrives.

Create a temporary email

Time isn't the only factor

An address's lifetime only tells you whether it can still receive mail; it doesn't mean it's suitable for a long-term account. Even if the task takes only ten minutes, use an email address you control long term whenever password resets, order disputes, or identity checks may arise.

1–3 hours

Best for trial downloads, browsing forums, developer testing, and one-time codes. Keep the page open and preserve local storage until the confirmation email arrives.

3–24 hours

Best for multi-step sign-ups or same-day activities. Use the extension feature to keep the same address instead of creating several addresses and scattering your codes.

Multi-day tasks

If notifications will continue for several days, a temporary inbox may increase the risk of missed messages. After signing in, issue a public address that you can pause.

Long-term recovery

Important accounts must be linked to a long-term email and protected with the security measures offered by the service. Never use a temporary address as a recovery credential.

Recovery limits:The same browser may restore locally saved inbox context while the address is valid. Recovery isn't guaranteed after browser data is cleared, a token expires, or the mailbox expires.
